CAPTAIN'S PRIZE FOR JUVENILES WILL BE

HELD ON TUESDAY 10TH AUGUST TEE-

TIMES 9-10.30AM. DRAW FOR PARTNERS.

Saturday 24 July 2010

A number of adults agreed to accompany the Juveniles for the 9-Hole competition held on Sat 24th. The purpose of this was to guide and assist the Juveniles in the etiquette on the course, to explain some of the rules and to provide a few tips about play in general.

The Club wishes to express its thanks to the following adults who accompanied the Juveniles;

Breda Maguire

Maura Dunne

Mary Malone

Finola Smith

Cathal Hughes

Captain, Tom Downes

Declan Young

We wish to list here some of the tips and learning which emerged on the day and which we wish to share with all Juveniles and their Parent/Guardians and Mentors.

1. In general, the majority of the Juveniles play at too slow a pace. When it is your turn to play be ready and play your shot. Dont play out of turn but move at a brisk pace between shots.

2. Learn where to leave your bag at the green so as to be convenient for the next shot or next hole. It appears there is a lot of lost time with bags left at the front of the green - lot of walking to & fro.

3. Dont have your golf bag full of golf balls - some bags are very heavy as a result and this will slow you down (and everyone else behind you! - empty the bag except for 5 or 6 golf balls)

4. Observe the etiquette of not walking on your playing partners line between ball & hole on the green. Also wait your turn to putt on the green.

5. When a player swings at the ball and misses completely - this is called 'Fresh Air'. It must be counted as a full shot and, like everything in golf, this is a game of hounour where the responsibility rests with the players to count it as such and not to say it was a practice shot. A number of Juveniles are not counting these as full shots and this must be done.

6. A lost ball whether out of bounds or lost in a tree must be replayed from the location where it was last played at a penalty of 2 shots.

7. Sign cards clearly and within the box on the scorecard designated to make it easy for Convenor to assess the scores.

8. Practice is not allowed in bunkers during a round of golf. If you touch the sand except when hitting the short, this is a penalty and must be added.

9. Scoring - it seems that some, but not all, Juveniles are failing to fully record all of their shots. You must and your marker must sign off that all the shots are recorded on your scorcard.

10. Replace your divots and pitch-marks on greens. Also repair other divot  or pitch-marks that you have a chance to do when your playing partners are playing their shots. It is your course and it needs to be looked after.

11. Always come along to your game with a pitchfork repairer and ball marker for the green.
